Crockpot Salisbury Steak Recipe

Welcome to my West Virginia Kitchen!  One of our very favorite meals is Homemade Salisbury Steak.  My cousin gave me the recipe at my bridal shower 20 years ago and we have loved it ever since.  I didn't think it was possible for it to get any better until now.

This Crockpot Salisbury Steak Recipe has all the great flavors of the stove top version I love with the ease of the slow cooker (which I also love).  I can't wait to share this one with you so...

Let's Get Started!

WHY YOU'LL LOVE THIS RECIPE:
  • Convenience:  Using a crockpot means you can set it and forget it.  Perfect for busy weekdays or when you want to come home to a delicious, ready-to-eat meal.
  • Flavor:  Slow cooking allows the flavors to meld together beautifully, resulting in tender steaks and rich, savory gravy.
  • Easy Ingredients:  This recipe uses common pantry staples, making it both budget-friendly and accessible.
  • Versatility:  Serve it with mashed potatoes, rice, or over egg noodles for a complete meal.  The options are endless!
  • Family-Friendly:  Kids and adults alike will love the hearty and comforting flavors of this dish.

INGREDIENTS:

For this Crockpot Salisbury Steak Recipe you will need a few simple ingredients:

The ingredients needed to make the Crockpot Italian Chicken with Rice Recipe.
  • 1 lb Ground Beef
  • 1/4 cup Bread Crumbs
  • 1 Egg, lightly beaten
  • 1 Tbsp. Dried Minced Onion
  • Salt & Pepper, to taste
  • 1 Onion, sliced
  • 2 cups Mushrooms, sliced
  • 2 cups Beef Broth
  • 1/4 cup Worcestershire Sauce
  • 2 Tbsp Cornstarch
  • 1/4 c water

INSTRUCTIONS:
  1. Prepare the Patties:  In a large bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, dried minced onion, salt, and pepper.  Mix until well combined.  Shape the mixture into 6-8 patties.
  2. Brown Patties:  Heat a large Skillet over medium-high heat.  Brown the patties on both sides, about 3-4 minutes per side.  This step adds flavor, but is optional if you are short on time.
  3. Assemble in Crockpot:  Place the sliced onions in a single layer on the bottom of the crockpot insert.  Place the browned patties in the crockpot, on top of the sliced onions.  Sprinkle the sliced onions over the patties.  Pour the beef broth and Worcestershire sauce over the patties.
  4. Cook:  Cover and cook on LOW for 5-6 hours or HIGH for 3-4 hours, until the patties are cooke through and tender.
  5. Thicken the Gravy:  About 30 minutes before serving mix cornstarch and water in a small bowl until smooth.  Stir this mixture into the crockpot to thicken the gravy.
  6. Serve:  Garnish with fresh parsley and serve over mashed potatoes, rice, or egg noodles.

TIPS AND TRICKS:
  • Make-Ahead:  You can prepare the patties and brown them the night before.  Store them in the refrigerator and assemble the dish in the crockpot in the morning.
  • Extra Veggies:  Add sliced mushrooms, carrots, or peas for added nutrition and flavor.
  • Leftovers:  This dish reheats well, making it great for leftovers.  Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
