Classic Chicken Salad Recipe

One of my favorite, quick and easy, go-to meals is Classic Chicken Salad.

I think it's because it's one of those recipes that you usually have all the ingredients on hand.  It's not super fussy to prepare, and everyone loves it!  Recently I took my recipe for Classic Chicken Salad Recipe to a ladies even for my church and so many of the requested this recipe that I decided to put it on my blog!  I know you're gonna love it so...

Let's Get Started!

For this Classic Chicken Salad Recipe you will need a few simple ingredients:

The ingredients needed to make the Classic Chicken Salad Recipe.

  • 2 cups Chicken, cooked and shredded
  • 1 cup+ Mayonnaise 
  • 2 Tbsp+ Sweet Pickle Relish 
  • 3 Stalks of Celery, finely diced
  • 1 Onion, finely diced
  • Salt and Pepper, to taste


First things first you must cook and shred your chicken.

There are various was you can do this.

  1. Season with salt and pepper and bake for 25 minutes at 325.  
  2. Boil in Chicken Broth for 20 minutes, drain and shred.
  3. Cook in Crockpot with chicken broth on HIGH for 4-6 hours.
  4. Cook in Instant Pot with 1 cup chicken broth for 10 minutes fresh, 30 minutes frozen.

While your chicken is cooking, dice your vegetables.

Combine the cooked chicken and vegetables in a large mixing bowl.

Pickle relish added to the mixing bowl.

Add the sweet pickle relish.

Add the Mayonnaise.

Stir everything together.

Give it all another stir, taste and make any adjustments you feel it needs.  If you want more mayo, add it.  If you want more relish flavor, add it.  More salt or pepper, add it.  Get the Classic Chicken Salad just how you like it.

Once everything is perfect cover and place in the refrigerator for chill for AT LEAST 1 hour.

A classic chicken salad recipe uses a few simple ingredients to create a cold, creamy salad filling for the perfect homemade chicken salad.

  2. Taste for Seasoning and make any adjustments you like.
  3. Cover the bowl and chill for at least 1 hour. 
  4. Serve and enjoy!
