Beef and Broccoli Stir Fry Recipe

It's Monday, it's the beginning of the month, it was a BUSY weekend, and the last thing you want to do tonight is cook a big dinner.  The thing is though, you gotta eat, right?     It's at times like these I always think Asian food.  It's super fast to make and it always packed with flavor. My Beef and Broccoli Stir Fry is  EXACTLY what the doctor ordered to pick up your Monday cooking blues.

The finish beef and broccoli stir fry in a cast iron skillet with the title text above it and a bowl of rice to the side.

This rich and zesty stir fry is not only delicious, but is ready to eat in UNDER 30 minutes!  You are going to love it and I can't wait to share it with you so...

Let's get started!

Beef and Broccoli Stir Fry:
*Prep Time:  7 minutes.  *Cook Time: 15 minutes *Difficulty:  Easy *Servings: 4-6

Ingredients:

Ingredients needed for the beef and broccoli stir fry

  • 1 lb. Flank Steak, thinly sliced
  • 1 lb. bag of Frozen Broccoli Florets
  • 1/2 c. Soy Sauce
  • 1/4 c. Marsala Wine or Cooking Sherry
  • 2 tbsp. Brown Sugar
  • 2 tbsp. Cornstarch
  • 1 tbsp. Garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp. Fresh Ginger, grated
  • Pinch of Chili Flake

Soy sauce being added to a mixing bowl.

To begin you we need to make the marinade/sauce for the beef and stir fry.

First you need to pour the soy sauce into a mixing bowl.

Marsala wine being added to the mixing bowl.

Next, add the wine to the mixing bowl.
I used Marsala because that is what I had, but if you have cooking sherry that is perfect.

Fresh ginger being grated into the mixing bowl.

Now into the bowl with soy and wine you will need to grate the ginger into it.
I have also used ground ginger in the recipe as well.  If you go that route use a 1/2 tsp.

Brown sugar being added to the mixing bowl.

Now add the brown sugar.

Cornstarch being added to the mixing bowl.

The corn starch,

Garlic being added to the mixing bowl.

The garlic,

Pinch of chili flake being added to the mixing bowl.

And finally the chili flake.
What can I say, I like a little spice.

All of the ingredients that have been added to the mixing bowl being whisked together.

Now whisk everything together!
Ooooo this is going to be so good.

The flank steak being sliced for the beef and broccoli stir fry.

Now we have to slice out flank steak.
A little trick I like to use is putting my steak into the freezer about 15-30 minutes before I slice it.
It just makes cutting it so much easier.

You want to slice it against the grain into about 1/4 in thick slices.

A slice of beef being help up to demonstrate how thin to cut it.

It will look a little something like this.

The sliced beef in the bowl of marinade.

Once you have sliced the beef, place it in to the marinade and make sure it is totally covered.

A cast iron skillet over high heat on the stove.

While the steak is marinating you will place your deep skillet over HIGH heat.
I like to use cast iron here, but a wok or any deep skillet will do.

The marinated beef being added to the hot skillet.

Once the pan is SMOKING hot, and by smoking I mean it will actually smoke, add half of the beef.
You don't want to put too much in the pan because if you do it will steam and not brown.
Cook for 2-3 minutes until brown and slightly pink in the middle.
Remove from pan and then do the second batch.
Once all the meat is cooked you can add it all back to the pan.

The frozen broccoli being added to the skillet with the beef.

Then add the broccoli.
Yes, I use frozen.
It is just so much easier to use  in a quick stir fry than fresh.
Don't judge. You ca n totally use fresh if you want.  You will just need to blanch it first.
Anyway, cook the broccoli until thawed and heated through, about 5 minutes.

The marinade being poured into the skillet with the beef and broccoli.

Now pour the marinade into the hot pan.
It will begin to bubble and thicken.
As soon and the sauce becomes clear and glossy remove it from the heat.

The finished beef and broccoli stir fry in a cast iron skillet.

And there you have it!  A delicious, mouthwatering, meal on the table in UNDER 30 minutes.  The beef is so succulent, the sauce is savory, but has a little tang to it from the soy and wine.  Oh man, this is truly on of my favorite dishes.  I serve is over some white rice, but you could totally serve with noodle, whatever you like.   I know you are going to love this one so get in the kitchen and give it a try TONIGHT!

And as always...
