How to make a Severed Finger Hot Dogs Halloween Recipe

If you have followed me on social media for any amount of time you will know that I LOVE Halloween.  To be honest I'm not into all the dark, scary aspects of the holiday.  However, I really enjoy all of the fun, quirkiness the season brings.  Since becoming a mom I especially love making fun and whimsical Halloween themed meals.  I've had a lot of fun with this recently and I can't wait to share with you what I have come up with starting with these Severed Finger Hot DogsThe vegan severed hot dog on a plate with waffle fries and some seasonal decor.I know, they look at little...gross, but trust me when I say my family had a hoot with them and I know you will too.  Let me show you how I did it!

For these Vegan Severed Hot Dogs you will need three simple ingredients:

The ingredients needed to make the vegan severed finger hot dogs.
  • 1 package of your favorite Hot Dogs
  • 1 package of Hot Dog Buns
  • Ketchup
Even though I am making this recipe vegan for my family it can EASILY be used with traditional hot dogs.  In fact I have done this back in my meat eating days and it worked our great!

A nail bed being cut into the tip of the hot dog.

First you will need to take a pairing knife and cut a sliver off the top tip of the hot dog to resemble the bed of a finger nail.

Joint grooves being cut into the hot dog.

Next cut slits in the body of the hot dog to resemble the joints in your finger.

The hot dogs cooking in a pot of boiling water.

After that bring a pot of water to boil and cook the hot dogs for 10 minutes.

This will cause the hot dogs to grow in size making your cuts really stand out.

The hot dogs being pan seared.

Because the overall makeup of vegan hot dogs is a little different that traditional hot dogs, I like to pan sear the bottom and sides just a little.  This helps to give the "skin" a little more snap.

Be sure NOT to sear the top because this will ruin the appearance of the "fingers".

Now place to hot dog finger on your bun, squirt a dollop of ketchup and the end of the hot dog to make it look like it was severed.  I like to serve these up with some spider web fries (psst they are really just waffle fries I got at my Dollar Tree), sit back, and watch everyone gobble them up with goulish delight! These were a lot of fun and couldn't be easier to whip up.  I know you and your crew are going to love them so get in the kitchen and give them a try tonight!

And as always...

Happy Reading, Happy Eating, and Happy Halloween!
