Steel Cut Oats with Maple Glazed Bananas Recipe

Full disclosure, I struggle with oatmeal.  I think it has a lot to do with the texture, I don't know.  All I know is that in years past it hasn't been my favorite thing to eat...until now.  A while back while visiting my sister she made these Steel Cut Oats with Maple Glazed Bananas and I just can't get enough of them.

Steel cut oats have a much heartier texture that make this recipe the perfect morning get up and go!  Oh and the maple glazed bananas...WOW!  I can't wait to share this one with you so...

Let's Get Started!

For this Steel Cut Oats with Maple Glazed Banana Recipe you will need a few simple ingredients:

The ingredients needed to make the steel cut oats with the maple glazed bananas.
  • 1 c Steel Cut Oats
  • 2 c Water
  • 1/4 c Maple Syrup
  • 1 Tbsp Peanut Butter
  • 1 Banana
  • 1 tsp Cinnamon
  • Plant Milk
  • Pinch of Salt
A pot of boiling water.

To get started you will need to bring the 2 cups of water to a boil.  

A spoonful of the cooking steel cut oats in the boiling water.

Add the steel cut oats and cook them according to the directions on the packaging.

They should look like this when they are ready.  
Thick, creamy, but still have a little bite to them.

Now for the maple glazed bananas.

Peel and slice your banana.

Place a pan over medium/high heat and allow to get hot. 
Add the maple syrup.

Add the banana and salt. Allow to brown and caramelize in the maple syrup.  
This will take 2-3 minutes.

Once the bananas are finished, pour the oats in a bowl and add the peanut butter.  
If you find the oats are too thick for your liking just add a little plant milk.

Sprinkle on a little cinnamon.

Top the oats with the maple glazed bananas.

And hey, while you're at it you might as well add a little extra maple syrup for good measure!

Steel Cut Oats with Maple Glazed Bananas

These Steel Cut Oats with Maple Glazed Bananas are creamy, sweet, and a little salty. They are the perfect cozy breakfast for those cool winter mornings.

Ingredients

  • 1 c Steel Cut Oats
  • 2 c Water
  • 1/4 c Maple Syrup

  • 1 Banana
  • 1 tsp Cinnamon
  • Plant Milk
  • Pinch of Salt

Instructions

  1. Bring the water to a boil. 
  2. Add the steel cut oats and cook according to the directions on the packaging. 
  3. Peel and slice the banana
  4. Place a pan over medium/high heat and allow to get hot. 
  5. Add the maple syrup, salt, and banana.  
  6. Cook long enough for the syrup to caramelize and the bananas to brown, about 2-3 minutes. 
  7. Pour prepared steel cut oats in a bowl.  
  8. If the oats are too thick for your liking add some plant milk. 
  9. Add the peanut butter. 
  10. Sprinkle on cinnamon
  11. Top with maple glazed bananas.
  12. Drizzle with a little extra maple syrup.
  13. Serve and Enjoy!
