I think it's safe to say that summer is officially here, and everywhere you look people are grilling chicken, hamburgers, hot dogs, and of course STEAK! One of the questions I get a lot from friends and family is how do I cook a restaurant quality steak if I don't have a grill? Well, I'm please to inform you that you 100% can by using a simple pan with my How to Make Perfect Pan Seared Steak Recipe.
With just a few simple ingredients and easy technique you are gonna be whipping up steak at home that will make you question why you ever went out in the first place. I can't wait to share this one with you so...
Let's get started!
Here is what you will need for my How to Make Perfect Pan Seared Steak Recipe:
- Cut of Steak of Your Choice (I am using a strip steak here)
- My Perfect Steak Seasoning (recipe below)
- 2 Tbsp Extra Virgin Olive Oil
- 2 Tbsp Butter
The key to this steak is THIS seasoning blend. I got this recipe from the head grill guy at a very popular steak house in my area and it is a true game changer. The recipe is as follows.
Perfect Steak Seasoning:
- 4 Tbsp Seasoning Salt
- 1 Tbsp Garlic Powder
- 1 Tbsp Onion Powder
- 1 tsp Kosher Salt
- 1 tsp Black Ground Pepper
Mix the ingredients together and store in an air tight container.
To begin you will need to preheat the oven to 400 degrees.
Before cooking your steaks you will want to remove them from the refrigerator 30 minutes prior to come to room temperature. This is important because you want your meat to cook evenly from edge to center. Therefore, the closer it is to its final eating temperature, the more evenly it will cook.
Once the steak is at room temp, season liberally on both sides with the Perfect Steak Seasoning.
To begin you will place a skillet (I HIGHLY recommend cast iron) over medium/high heat and allow the pan to get HOT. Add the oil and butter, letting the butter melt.
Add the steaks to the hot pan.
Let them cook 2 minutes per side to for this great crust.
It should look something like this.
You will place the steaks in the preheated oven and cook for the following times:
- MEDIUM RARE: 1-2 MINUTES
- MEDIUM: 2-3 MINUTES
- MEDIUM WELL: 3-4 MINUTES
- WELL: 5-6 MINUTES
Remove the steaks from the oven. How gorgeous do these look!?!
Let them rest for approximately 10 minutes and you are ready to eat!
I like to pair my Perfect Pan Seared Steaks with one of my Restaurant Style Baked Potatoes and some steamed broccoli or asparagus. It's a steakhouse worthy meal that you make at home for a FRACTION of the cost. I know you and everyone you know is going to LOVE this one so get in the kitchen and give it a try TONIGHT!
And as always...
