Welcome to my West Virginia Kitchen! We are well into the summer season, and that means its time to get our #GrillNGear. Many of us love attending a good BBQ, but often times we shy away from hosting because it can seem daunting and overwhelming. If that's you, FEAR NO MORE! Today I'm partnering with Giant Eagle to show you that with a few store bought items, quality ingredients, and some simple homemade tricks, you will be hosting the summer soiree that everyone will be talking about and my Bacon Cheddar Cheeseburgers with Onion Jam and Garlic Aioli are why! I'm sharing all my secrets, so get ready!
First things first though, let's head to the store.
Even though Giant Eagle is sponsoring this post, I'm not lying when I say that I feel they have one of the best meat departments in my area. I can always find fresh, quality, cuts of meat as well as creative things such as these gorgeous Certified Angus Beef Gourmet Bacon Cheeseburger Patties. The chunks of cheddar and bacon in these things were huge, and I KNEW it was going to make a great burger.
After that I grabbed some Pepsi, Hellmann's, Pepperidge Farm Farmhouse Dark Chocolate Chip Cookies, and a few items from the deli. That's the beauty of a great BBQ, you don't have to have anything fancy, just one show stopping item, and yummy things for everyone to munch on. Now its time to head out and get this #GrillNGear show on the road! I can't wait to share the recipe with you so...
Let's Get Started!
Bacon Cheddar Cheeseburger with Onion Jam and Garlic Aioli:
*Prep Time: 10 minutes *Cook Time: 10 minutes *Difficulty: Easy *Servings 4 Burgers
Ingredients:
- 4 Giant Eagle Gourmet Bacon Cheddar Burger Patties
- 4 Giant Eagle Deli Rolls
- 1 Pack of Pre-Cut Burger Toppings from the Giant Eagle produce section.
- 1 Red Onion, diced
- 4 Slices of cheddar cheese from the Giant Eagle Deli
- 1/4 c Hellmann's Mayonnaise
- 2 Cloves of Garlic, minced
- 2 Tbsp Balsamic Vinegar
- 2 Tbsp Honey
- Salt and Pepper
To begin we are going to make the onion jam.
I used the sliced onion from the burger toppings pack I found in the produce section, and dice them up. However, you cam simply dice 1 red onion.
Next, add a little oil to a small skillet and place it over medium/high heat.
Allow the pan to get hot.
Once the pan is hot, add the onions.
Season them with salt and pepper, and let sauté for 2-3 minutes.
After 2-3 minutes, add the balsamic vinegar and...
Honey.
Simmer for 10 minutes and your onion jam is ready.
Now for the garlic aioli.
Place the Hellmann's Mayonnaise into a small mixing bowl.
Add the minced garlic.
Season with a pinch of salt and pepper.
Mix everything together and your garlic aioli is ready to go.
Now let's move to the bacon cheeseburgers.
I wan't lying when I said these Giant Eagle Gourmet Burger Patties are stunning! Look at those big chunks of cheddar and bacon. I just simply seasoned each side of the patty with a little salt and pepper.
**UPDATE**
Recently I made these from scratch. I simply used 1 lb of 80/20 ground beef, 1c shredded sharp cheddar cheese, and 4 strips of bacon that have been fully cooked and chopped.
Of course it started pouring down the rain as I was ready to grill these, but I didn't let that stop me!
I heated up my grill pan over medium/high heat and place the patties on the grill.
To make sure the inside cooked evenly with the outside (which can be an issue with indoor grilling) I placed a lid over the patties. This creates the oven-like environment you would have with the lid down on an outdoor grill.
Grill for 5 minutes.
After five minutes you will flip your burger patties, place a piece of the Giant Eagle Cheddar Cheese from the deli, and cook for five more minutes. I didn't cover them with the lid this time.
A regular bun just won't do for a burger this good, so I grabbed these gorgeous ones from the Giant Eagle Deli and placed them on the grill to toast after my burger patties were finished cooking. No extra butter or oil needed, the residual fat from the bacon in the burgers will give them some BIG flavor.
Now it's time to assemble your burger!
I like to place a little lettuce and tomato on the bottom half of the bun. I loved this little package of burger toppings that I found in the produce section. It saved me a little money and all the hard work was done for me. Next I placed my perfectly cooked burger on top. You can literally SEE cheese and bacon oozing out of them. Now I place a couple dollops of the onion jam on top and slather the garlic aioli on the top bun.
And there you have it! This Bacon Cheeseburger with Onion Jam and Garlic Aioli is quiet possibly the best burger I have ever tasted. The meat was so juicy and PACKED full of great flavor. The onion jam has the perfect amount of acidity to cut through the rich meat and that aioli...Heaven. With a burger this good you just need some good potato chips, something sweet like the Pepperidge Farm Farmhouse Dark Chocolate Chip Cookies, and a nice cold Pepsi to wash it all down with. In under 30 minutes your Summer BBQ Bash is ready to get started so get your #GrillNGear, head to Giant Eagle, and invite some friends over TONIGHT!
