Homemade Chicken Nuggets Recipe

A lot of people say that they come from a family of great cooks, and I am sure many of them do, but I REALLY do!  My Grandma Margaret was known for her pies, my Aunt Pam has won a division in the Pillsbury Cook-Off, My Grandma Racer had the best noodles and rolls you have ever tasted, and my mother is FAMOUS for her fudge and potato salad.  But, surprisingly enough, the truly exceptional cook in my family is my dad!  He has an UNBELIEVABLE palette and can make ANYTHING!   One of his specialties is homemade chicken nuggets!  They are moist, juicy, and the "special" ingredient in the breading will rock your world!  Let me show you how he makes them so you can share them with your family!

Homemade Chicken Nuggets:
 *Prep-Time:  20min. *Cook-Time:  5 min.  *Difficulty:  Easy  *Servings:  4

Here is what you will need:

  • 4 Boneless, Skinless Chicken Breasts; cubed
  • 1/2 c. Bread Crumbs
  • 1/2 c. French Fried Onions, crushed
  • 1/4 c. Flour
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 tsp. Onion Powder
  • 1 tsp. Seasoning Salt
  • 3-4 tbsp. Oil
  • 3 tbsp. Butter
  • Salt and Pepper

Tools you will need:
  • Skillet
  • Knife
  • Measuring spoons
  • 3 dishes for breading
  • Mallet or Rolling Pin

Let's Get Started!

After cutting your chicken breasts into cubes, you are going to tend to the special ingredient in your breading...French fried onions.  Put your French fried onions in a Ziploc bag and, using a kitchen mallet or rolling pin, pound the living daylights out of it!  Use this time to think about the things that stress you out or frustrate you most and work it out!

Next up, you will need your three pans for breading.  In the first, your eggs.  In the second, your flour, bread crumbs, French fried onions, and seasoning.  The third will remain empty for now.

Dip your chicken in the egg...

Then, into the breading.

After you have finished breading your nuggets, put them in the empty tray and....

Place in the fridge for 30 minutes OR the freezer for 10 to allow the breading to set.

For cooking, add your oil and butter to your pan. Turn the heat on to medium high and let it get hot and the butter to melt completely.

When your grease is hot, add your nuggets in batches.  3 minutes on the first side...

Two on the other.  Be careful to watch your temperature.  If your nuggets begin to get too brown, turn your flame down.

After I made my nuggets I decided I wanted my favorite sauce...Chic-fil-A  Sauce!  Thing is, I didn't have any and I didn't want to go get it.  So, what do you do in the situation?  YOU MAKE IT!!!  Here is my recipe!

2 tbsp. Mayo
2 tbsp. BBQ Sauce
2 tbsp. Yellow Mustard
2 tbsp. Honey
1 tsp. Lemon Juice
Whisk till smooth.

Trust me!  You will not be able to tell the difference!

This meal is quick and fun and I know your entire family will love it!  Make them for your next party and all of your friends will be like "What is in these nuggets!?!"  It is up to you if your share your secret or not!  I'll never tell. ;)  This pairs great with my oven fries found on the link below.

Let me know if you try this recipe.  I would love to see your photos on my facebook page and, as always...
