Couponing with Alicia Week 2: The Questions to Ask

What do I need?
Where do I get them?
How do I use them?
When do I use them?

These are all questions as a beginner I asked. So I figured that would be the place to start. We are going to go over these questions quickly in this post, and more in-depth in future posts. I know you all are anxious to get started and I want to give you enough ammo to get going.

What do I need?

Well, other than the obvious coupons, you will need a way to store and organize your coupons. I believe the system that you use needs to be tailored to your needs. If you chose to only do a small about for certain items, a large binder would be heavy and useless to you. If you want to create a stockpile that takes over your basement, like me, you will need a binder, with plastic sleeves, and a stylish bag to contain the necessary arsenal.

Where do I get them?

No longer are you bound to heaps of Sunday newspapers. We now have the option to not only purchase full inserts but single sets of coupons from great sites like WizClips. Another great site to just print internet coupons is Coupons.com. I have also seen folks write or email their favorite company to compliment them on products and request coupons. A word to the wise about purchasing coupons is to only use trusted sites. Please ask on here or someone you may know that coupons if the site is trustworthy.

How do I use them?

This is very important. I must be real here. I am a firm believer in if you won't use it don’t buy it. Coupons can be a blessing or an enemy. I found, with myself, that I could purchase slews of items that my family wouldn't use because I had a coupon. Even if it is cheap, it still costs something. You could end up spending way more than your budget this way than if you never used a coupon. This is where knowing your family's needs and what you need to stockpile becomes crucial. Keep yourself in check.

When do I use them?

I love this one. I feel that this is the ultimate key to couponing and what many I have shared with missed the first time they attempted to coupon. Ready for it? Combine your coupon with a weekly sale. WAIT FOR THE SALE. It is so important to combine these because not only are you getting a lesser price sale wise, but now you have a coupon. Deepens your saving immensely.

I know that this does not include every single topic that we need to cover. But I want to get you all started because some have been waiting a while for this. If you feel that you can get started with these simple tips, awesome, but if you are like those that need detailed instructions, be patient, they are coming!

Happy Savings,
Alicia
