How to Throw a Walking Dead Dinner Party: The Ultimate Guide

  Welcome to the apocalypse!  Okay, maybe not the apocalypse, but definitely something cool.  Are you a fan of The Walking Dead and want to bring the thrilling world of zombies to your dinner table?  Look no further! 

This guide will help you throw a Walking Dead dinner party that will have your guests talking for weeks.  From decorations and menu ideas to costumes and activities, I've got you covered.  The best part, I did it all on a budget!  Time to create an apocalyptic evening that's to die for so...

But beware....The Dead Are Inside.....

1. INVITATIONS: SET THE TONE

Start by sending out themed invitations to get your guests excited.  Consider using old looking parchment paper with blood splatters or a survival kit invite.  Included details like date, time, location, and a note encouraging guests to come in their best zombie or survivor attire.

2.  WALKING DEAD DECORATIONS:

Transform your home into a post apocalyptic world.  Here are some ideas to get started. 

• Entrance:  Create a barricade with cardboard boxes and fake barbed wire at your front door. 
• Lighting:  Use dim, flickering lights or candles to create a spooky ambience.  

• Props:  Scatter fake body parts, severed limbs, and faux bloodstains around the party area.  Hang "Don't Open, Dead Inside" signs on doors.  
• Table Setting:  Use Dark tablecloths or old newspaper to cover the tables.  Distressed plates and utensils make a big impact.  Add small details like cans, and plastic rats, zombie hand centerpieces, and blood dripped candles. 

3.  Walking Dead Menu Ideas:

A Walking Dead Dinner Party wouldn't be complete without a menu to match.  Here are some gruesome yet delicious ideas.  

• Appetizers:  Deviled "eyeballs" (deviled eggs with green olives), "finger" sandwiches (mini sandwiches with almond slice nails, my "Head Cheese" ball pictured above, and a "Zombie Flesh" platter (a meat and cheese platter with "zombie eyes" olives). 

• Main Course:  Foot-Shaped Meatloaf, Zombie Ribs (Crockpot BBQ Ribs), and "intestine" sausage (sausage wrapped in puff pastry), Blood Red Pasta (pasta with marinara sauce), and Roasted "Flesh" (Roasted chicken)

• Dessert:  Red velvet "blood" cupcakes, guts Jell-o (red Jell-o with gummy worms), and "brain" cake (a cake shaped like a brain), I even came across this cute zombie cupcake kit while shopping during halloween at Walmart.  

One find that I unexpectedly came across was this Walking Dead Blood Orange IPA from a local wine shop called The Wine Basket.  I purchased a few bottles and they were nice enough to throw in this really fun box for free!  

So now that the table was decorated, the food was ready, the beverages were chilled, it was time to get into character.  I mean, you can't have a Walking Dead Dinner Party without zombies!

4.  Zombie-Inspired Costumes:

Encourage your guests to come dressed as their favorite Walking Dead Characters or as zombies.  Here are some costume ideas:

• Survivors:  Rick Grimes, Daryl Dixon, Michonne, or Carol.
• Zombies:  Use face paint, fake blood, and tattered clothes to create a chilling undead look.

5.  Walking Dead Activities:  

Keep your guests entertained with themed activities:

• Zombie Apocalypse Survival Game:  Create a scavenger hunt where guests find supplies and weapons to survive a zombie attack.
• Zombie Makeup Station:  Set up a station with face paint and fake blood where guests can transform into zombies.
• Themed Photo Booth:  Create a backdrop with props and costumes for guests to take memorable photos. 

6.  Music and Entertainment:

Set the mood with a Walking Dead soundtrack or eerie, atmospheric, music.  You can also play episodes of The Walking Dead in the background or have a Walking Dead Trivia Game to test your guests' knowledge.
