A pan full of the finished One Pot Italian Smoked Sausage and Tortellini Skillet

This dish is a dreamy mix of cheesy tortellini, savory smoked sausage, and colorful bell peppers, all coated in a zesty Italian style sauce that will have your family asking for seconds (and thirds!).  I can't wait to share it with you so...

Let's Get Started!

WHY YOU'LL LOVE THIS RECIPE:

  • One Pot Wonder:  Fewer dishes, less hassle.  Everything cooks together in one skillet!
  • Bold Italian Flavor:  Thanks to the smoked sausage, garlic, Italian dressing and parmesan.
  • Ready in 30 Minutes:  Perfect for busy weeknights with you want real food fast.
  • Family Friendly:  Even the picky eaters will clean their plates!
  • Colorful and Comforting:  Bell peppers bring the color, cheese tortellini brings the comfort.

INGREDIENTS YOU'LL NEED:
  • 12 oz Smoked Sausage, sliced into coins.
  • 1 (12 oz) bag Frozen Cheese Tortellini
  • 1 Onion, diced
  • 1 Red Bell Pepper, chopped
  • 1 Orange Bell Pepper, chopped
  • 1 Green Bell Pepper, chopped
  • 1 Tbsp Garlic Minced
  • 2 cups Chicken Broth
  • 1 cup Italian Dressing (I like using the Olive Garden one best)
  • Shredded Parmesan Cheese

HOW TO MAKE ONE POT ITALIAN SMOKED SAUSAGE TORTELLINI SKILLET:
  1. Sauté the Sausage and Veggies:  In a large skillet heat a drizzle of olive oil over medium heat.  Add the sliced smoked sausage and cook until browned.  Toss in the diced onion and chopped bell peppers.  Sauté for 5-6 minutes until softened.  Add in the garlic and cook for another 30 seconds, until fragrant.
  2. Simmer:  Add the frozen tortellini and chicken broth to the pan.  Stir everything together and bring to a gentle boil.
  3. Cover and Cook:  Reduce the heat to medium-low, cover the skillet, and let simmer for 8-10 minutes or until the tortellini is tender and cooked through.
  4. Finish and Serve:  Uncover, pour in the Italian dressing, give it a stir, and sprinkle the shredded Parmesan cheese over the top.  Let it melt for a minute, then serve hot!

TIPS & TRICKS FOR THE BEST TORTELLINI SKILLET:
  • Don't Thaw the Tortellini:  Toss in straight from the freezer!
  • Use Any Color Bell Peppers:  The more variety, the prettier the dish.
  • Like It Spicy?  Add a pinch of red pepper flakes or use a spicy smoked sausage.
  • Make It Creamy:  Stir in a splash of heavy cream or a dollop of cream cheese before serving for an extra luxurious texture.
  • Add Greens:  Throw in a handful of spinach or kale and the end for a veggie boost.

FAQs:

Can I use refrigerated tortellini instead of frozen?

Yes!  Just reduce the cook time by a few minutes and watch closely so it doesn't overcook.

Can I use kielbasa instead of smoked sausage?

Absolutely!  Any fully cooked sausage works well here.  Kielbasa, turkey sausage, or even plant-based sausage.

Does this reheat well?

It sure does.  Store leftovers in an airtight container and reheat in the microwave or on the stovetop with a splash of broth to loosen it up.
