Memorial Day has come and gone, and Summer has officially started!  Bring on the barbecues, picnics, festivals, pool parties, etc!  It really is one of my favorite times of the year.  And this year Kroger, Rubbermaid, and I are going to help you #ColorYourSummer by equipping you with a couple fool proof recipes to either whip up at home, or take with you like my Honey Sriracha Hummus and Fruit Infused Water.

The honey sriracha hummus in a dish surrounded by vegetables with the title above it.

You won't believe how simple they are, and the secret ingredient in my hummus will really blow your mind so...

Let's Get Started!

When looking to #ColorYourSummer, head on over to your local Kroger or any banner store and check out the Rubbermaid display featuring their new summer Colors of Calypso Coral or Lagoon Blue!  I have to confess, I had a hard time choosing, but the Lagoon Blue made me think of the ocean so that was the winner.  They also have these great Refill and reuse bottles, as well as their party platter.  The best part is that Kroger is also offering a $1.00 off coupon too!

The step by step picture instructions for the infused water.

Sometimes when I am at a BBQ things like soda, sweet tea, and lemonade are just too heavy and sticky, especially when the weather is super hot.  So I like to serve Fruit Infused Water.  It's light and refreshing, with just a touch of flavor and sweetness.

All you need is:

  • 6-8 Strawberries, sliced
  • 1 Lime, Sliced
  • 2-3 Stems of Fresh Mint, torn
Directions:
  • Simply place all of your sliced and torn ingredients into your Rubbermaid pitcher and fill with water.  I recommend letting this steep overnight for maximum flavor, but you can serve on the spot as well.  The longer it steeps the more the flavor of the fruit will shine through.
Now let's talk about the Honey Sriracha Hummus....

Honey Sriracha Hummus:
*Prep Time: 5 min.  *Cook Time: --  *Difficulty:  Easy  *Servings: 2 c. Hummus

Ingredients:

The ingredients needed to make the Honey Sriracha Hummus.

  • 1 15 oz. Can of Garbanzo Bean (Chick Peas), drain, but reserve the liquid
  • 1/3 c. Extra Virgin Olive Oil
  • 3 Cloves of Garlic
  • 3 Tbsp. of Almond Butter
  • 1 Tbsp. Honey
  • 1 tsp. Sriracha
  • Salt and Pepper, to taste

The cloves of garlic in the food processors.

To begin I like to throw the garlic into my food processor or chopper and buzz it up a little.

The chick peas in the food processor.

Next add the garbanzo beans (chick peas).

The chick pea liquid being added to the food processor.

Pulse until the beans are finely chopped and begin to make a paste.
You may need to add a little of the reserved liquid from the can to help it to come together.

The finely chopped chick peaks and garlic in the food processor.

It should look something like this.

Lemon juice being added to the food processor.

Now add the lemon juice,

Sriracha being added to the food processor.

Sriracha,

Almond butter being added to the food processor.

Almond Butter,

**If you have made your own hummus before you are probably asking yourself "Where is the tahini?  Why is she using almond butter?"  I'll tell you.  In my small town in West Virginia, tahini is not easily found, and when you do, it can cost upwards of $10.00 or more for a small jar.  So I use almond butter as an alternative (use can use any nut butter really).  It's inexpensive, most of us have it at home already, and it tastes the same.  If you ask me, it's a no brainer. **

Honey being added to the food processor.

Honey,

Salt being added to the food processor.

Salt,

Pepper being added to the food processor

And pepper.

Extra virgin olive oil being added to the food processor.

Place the lid on your food processor, turn it on, and slowly drizzle in the extra virgin olive oil.

The Honey Sriracha Blended together in the food processor.

It's that simple, and for pennies of the cost of buying it.

Keeping things simple, I bought one of Kroger's pre-made vegetable trays to serve with my hummus.  The Honey Sriracha Hummus is rich and creamy with just a hint of sweet spiciness.  It's the perfect accompaniment to any bowl of chips or vegetable tray!

So this summer head on over to Kroger grab your favorite Rubbermaid products, the ingredients for my Honey Sriracha Hummus and Fruit Infused Water and #ColorYourSummer!  Also, I would love to hear what some of your favorite BBQ go-to's are, so leave them in the comments below.  And as always...

  3. What a great riff on hummus. Here in the UK tahini is available everywhere, and is considerably cheaper than almond butter too!

    1. In bigger cities it is easier to find, but here it is so hard and when you do it is so expensive. And I get my almond butter and a chain called Aldi for under $3 a tub.

  10. The hummus is a blend of sweet honey and spicy sriracha, with a smooth texture and creaminess. The sriracha provides a subtle kick, while the texture is velvety and easy to dip or spread. The heat level is moderate, suitable for those with varying heat preferences. The hummus is versatile, pairing well with various snacks and dishes, making it a good addition to a party platter. The overall impression is positive, and the product is recommended for various occasions or dishes.
