Dora's Homemade Applesauce

It is officially Autumn!  I love it!  I...LOVE...IT!! I love the changing leaves, the cooler weather, everything.  So this year, to celebrate the first day of Fall, I decided to head over to our local apple orchard Hidden Hills Orchard. This was my first time there and I am so glad I went!

Vanilla Scones

I love the Vanilla Scones at Starbucks.  The thing is, there is not a single solitary Starbucks in my entire town.  NOT ONE!  Hard to believe, I know, but alas, I suffer.  That is when I decided that I had to come up with a recipe to make these at home!  Now these are not the prettiest scones you will ever see, but I promise you they are tasty!

I can't wait to show you how I did it so let's get started!

Mexican Pizza

Have you ever had a craving that drove you insane?  You know the one.  No matter what you eat, what you drink, if you don't get it you will never be satisfied.  Well, that was me the other day.  I REALLY wanted a Mexican Pizza from that very popular fast food chain.  I mean REALLY wanted it.  The problem was that I was broke.  Yep, we are at the end of the month and I have just enough in the good ol' grocery envelope to get me through.  BUT I REALLY WANTED IT!  So that is when I decided to get creative.  I went to my fridge and pantry, grabbed a few simple ingredients, and made my own.  You know what?  They were DELICIOUS!  So, without further delay, let me show you how I made them.  You won't believe how easy it was!

Rigatoni alla Vodka

Studhubs and I recently went on vacation to Myrtle Beach, SC.  When we go to the beach we really don't plan on doing much more than sitting on the beach, swimming in the waves, reading books, and evenings in the hot tub.  *sigh*  I LOVE the beach.  However, the one thing we do enjoy doing while we are there is finding some great, locally owned places to eat.  On our first night there Studhubs requested pasta, so we went on the hunt for a great Italian place to eat.  What we found was this great little place, tucked away on N. Kings Hwy, called Toscana Italian Bistro.

It was a BEAUTIFUL little place!  Our service was outstanding, and the food, oh my, the food was amazing!  While I was there I had Penne alla Vodka.  I had never tried this dish before, but I was SO glad I did.  It was delicious and I knew instantly that I had to try and recreate this recipe as soon as I got home!  The result was divine, and I can't wait to share it with you!

How to Perfectly Roast a Beef Tenderloin

Usually I try to keep my recipes pretty inexpensive, but sometimes you have occasions that call for something a little special.  To each of us that will look different, but one thing is for certain Roasted Beef Tenderloin is the perfect thing to put on any table!  Ahhhh tenderloin...king of beef.  It is where filet mignon comes from and it is truly the most succulent and tender piece of meat there is.  It is also a little pricey. A 4 lb. tenderloin will cost you around $40.  That is why you want to make sure that you prepare it just right!  Follow these simple instructions and I guarantee your family and guests will be BLOWN away!!!

Steakhouse Salald

We have been traveling a lot recently and that means lots of rich and heavy foods. With that being the case, sometimes I just want a nice salad for dinner.  However, because I have the King of Carnivores for a husband, a simple green salad just won't do!  This is when I use an inexpensive steak cut and some ingenuity to come up with a light, but filling, Steakhouse Salad.  I know you are going to love this so let's get started!

Homemade Peas and Carrots

I know, I know, you see this blog and you think "Peas and Carrots!  Gross!"  And if you are one of those poor souls, like me, who's primary experience was the mushy mess in the school cafeteria you have the right to be skeptical.  However, The Kitchen Wife is here to show you that there is a brighter side to your peas and carrot woes.  Who knows, this may even become one of your favorite, go-to sides!

Homemade Banana Bread

I am sure this never happens to any of you, but sometimes I buy things at the store, with the best intentions, but then life happens and at the end of the week here I have an entire bunch of bananas sitting on my counter, ripe as ripe can be.  Some of you would say "cut your losses and throw them away", but I HATE waste!  So what do I do with them?  Whip up some SCRUMPTIOUS Banana Bread of course!  This recipe is so simple and you will not believe how moist and delicious it is!

Creamy Potato Soup

Creamy Potato Soup

September has come and ready or not, Autumn is well on its way!

This weekend our temperatures have not gone above 70 degrees, the air has been crisp, and there has even been the occasional rain storm.  It is on days like this that I love to curl up in my big comfy chair with my puppies and a piping hot bowl of my Creamy Potato Soup.  This soup is the perfect way to warm the soul on a chilly fall afternoon, and I can't wait to show you how I make it!
