Homemade Sloppy Joe's

Homemade Sloppy Joe's

On busy weeknights, I will be the first to admit that I am tempted to fold and grab the easiest convenience food I can find.  Box, can, frozen, it makes no difference!  If it's quick and easy, I want it!  Who cares about the added salt and chemical preservatives!?!
Just give me a one pot meal in 30 minutes or less!

The thing is, these trusted convenience foods can often be made, at home, with things we ALREADY have on hand, in the SAME amount of time!  Today's recipe is the PERFECT example of that.
You may never crack open a can again!

Homemade Sloppy Joe's:
*Prep Time:  20 min.  *Cook Time:  10 min.  *Difficulty:  Easy  *Servings:  6-8

Ingredients:

  • 2 lb. Ground Beef
  • 1 Onion, diced
  • 1 Green Pepper, diced
  • 2 Cloves of Garlic, minced
  • 1 1/2 c. Ketchup
  • 1 c. Water
  • 2 tbsp. Brown Sugar
  • 2 tbsp. Dijon Mustard
  • 2 tbsp. Worcestershire Sauce
  • 1 tsp. Thyme
Tools:
  • Deep Skillet
  • Chef's Knife
  • Measuring Cups
  • Measuring Spoons
  • Rubber Spatula
  • Small Bowl
  • Spoon

To begin, you will want to place your skillet over a medium/high heat.

Add a little oil.

Dice the green pepper, onion, and mince the garlic.

To the skillet, add the onion and allow it to cook until
it's soft and translucent.

Then add the green pepper and allow it to cook until soft as well.
Once the green pepper is soft, add the minced garlic.
You will cook the garlic just long enough so that you can smell it coming from the pan.

Now you can add the ground beef.

Make sure that you season the ground beef with salt and pepper well.

Cook for about 10 minutes, or until cooked through.
Tip the pan to the side, and using a spoon, scoop out the excess grease...

Pour into a small bowl.

Now you will add the ketchup,

Brown sugar,

Dijon mustard,

and Worcestershire Sauce.
Stir everything together until all the meat is coated.

Now add 1 cup of water, stir,

Add the thyme, stir, and let simmer for 10 minutes.

As the sloppy joe's are simmering, heat a griddle and coat with a little butter.

Then add the hamburger buns and let them toast.

After 10 minutes, the sauce will reduce and thicken, and there you have it!
The most delicious sloppy joe's you will ever eat!
